In response to this, Amanda Gorman told The Harvard Gazette “I always considered my speech impediment as my strength because when I struggled with these hindrances or obstacles at my speech therapy, I became better by time in reading and writing.”

At the time of her speech therapy, Amanda Gorman had sung different songs to practice the letter “r”. Gorman’s favorite song for the practice was “Aaron Burr, Sir” from Hamilton.

She picked up that song because it is jam-packed with a lot of “R’s” which help her to pronounce the letter “r” in her poem.

Amanda Gorman at a young age was enrolled in a private school, New Roads, placed in Santa Monica, California for grades K-12.

Being passionate about writing and reading she got a scholarship as a senior, titled ‘Milken Family Foundation college scholarship’.

Later she went to Harvard University for further studies. In 2020, she completed her graduation and did B.A major in Sociology. Gorman was also supported by IES Abroad to spend a semester studying in Madrid, Spain.

In April 2017, during the time of her graduation at Harvard University, she became the first individual to be titled as “National Youth Poet Laureate”.
